The 2023/24 League Cup semi-final draw has been made following Liverpool’s 5-1 thumping of West Ham United.
Liverpool join Fulham, Middlesbrough and Chelsea in the semi-finals.
Boro booked their place with a 3-0 over Port Vale, with Michael Carrick’s side stifling their opponents into submission.
Everton played an exciting one-all draw with Fulham and headed into penalties, where the Cottagers emerged victorious as Idrissa Gueye missed his spot-kick.
Chelsea also booked their place in the next round via a penalty shoot-out win over Newcastle United.
The Magpies took the lead in the first half following a calamitous sequence at the back from the Blues.
Levi Colwill’s back pass was poor and Thiago Silva failed to put a definitive foot in the way. Benoit Badiashile failed to deal with the ball, allowing Callum Wilson to score.
Chelsea fought hard and created openings but could not take advantage of their opportunities until Kieran Trippier handed Mykhailo Mudryk a glorious chance to level matters late on.
Trippier’s woes were compounded during penalties as he flashed his penalty kick wide, and Chelsea keeper Djordje Petrovic saved Matt Ritchie’s effort to seal the win.
Middlesbrough will face Chelsea in the semi-final of the League Cup, while Liverpool will take on Fulham.
The first leg of the semi-final ties will be played week commencing January 8, while the reverse fixtures will be staged two weeks later.
