Andy Robertson hands Liverpool injury scare

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson sustained a nasty-looking arm injury during Scotland’s European Championship 2024 qualifier against Spain this evening

Robertson captained his national team in Seville, with Steve Clarke’s side seeking a point that would propel them into back-to-back Euros for only the second time in history.

Scotland stood firm against Spain’s relentless effort to break the deadlock for most of the first half despite failing to make a single shot towards Unai Simon’s goal themselves.

One of the visitors’ sporadic attempts to be dangerous in the front third could cost Liverpool dearly as the Tartan Army skipper had to leave the field on the stroke of half-time.

After a nasty collision with Simon in the air, the 29-year-old stayed on the ground, holding his right shoulder. The Spain goalkeeper landed on Robertson, which caused the injury.

The Reds star received immediate medical attention, but with his arm placed in a makeshift sling, he couldn’t continue. Everton right-back Nathan Patterson took his place.

Scotland headed into Thursday’s game boasting a 100% record in Euro 2024 qualifying Group A, knowing a point would seal qualification for next summer’s tournament.

But regardless of the outcome, Clarke’s men should secure a top-two finish as they hold a substantial five-point lead on third-placed Norway with two games left.

As for Jurgen Klopp, Robertson’s injury is the last thing he needs amid Liverpool’s bid to stay within touching distance of Premier League leaders Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Robertson had several injury problems last term, but he has been among the regular starters for the Merseyside outfit this season, featuring in all eight league matches.

Liverpool will meet cross-city rivals Everton when the Premier League returns to action on October 21.

Whether Robertson will be at Klopp’s disposal remains to be seen, but it seems more likely he will be on the sidelines for the upcoming Merseyside derby.
