Curtis Jones & Andy Robertson return to training ahead of Sheffield United clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has received a welcome boost ahead of Thursday’s Premier League encounter with Sheffield United at Anfield, with the news that Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson are back in contention.

Midfielder Jones has been sidelined since February due to an ankle injury. However, the England youth international has returned to full training and is pushing for a return.  

Klopp highlighted Jones’ pre-injury importance, stating (via LFC’s website), “He was incredibly important… He set the tone and played an outstanding season.” 

The German manager remains cautiously optimistic about Jones’ role. Klopp suggested that the midfielder will play a limited role to manage his return.

Left-back Robertson picked up a knock while on international duty with Scotland. The rapid defender has now recovered from the ankle issue. 

However, Wataru Endo is a doubt for the clash after picking up a knock in the recent win over Brighton & Hove Albion, where he was fantastic in the centre of the park.

There was also positive news on the long-term injury front. Key players Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alisson Becker are all expected to rejoin training next week. 

Youngster Stefan Bajcetic is also nearing a return after training with the U21s this week ahead of rejoining the first team next week.

The Reds have been buoyed by the returning players, but Klopp downplayed Liverpool’s status as favourites in the title race.  

The departing coach emphasised the importance of ignoring outside noise and focusing on the team playing to its potential. “There are no guarantees, just opportunities,” he declared.  

Klopp avoided discussing Manchester City and Arsenal’s upcoming matches, stating, “I always expect them to win. We just need to win our football games.”

Liverpool will be looking to maintain their title charge when they host Sheffield United on Thursday, with the return of Jones and Robertson providing a major boost to their hopes.
