How Liverpool’s Alisson fared in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Morocco

Brazil failed to make a winning start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in Saturday’s game at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. 

The Selecao looked second best to Morocco for long spells of the game and fell behind midway through the first-half. 

Isamel Saibari showed why he is being linked with some of the biggest European clubs by scoring the opening goal in the 21st minute. 

But Vinicius Junior produced a moment of magic to level the scores, which ultimately salvaged a draw for Brazil. 

How Liverpool’s Alisson performed against Morocco 

Brazil have come into the tournament as one of the favourites to win the 2026 World Cup. 

But they failed to live up to the billing by producing a largely disappointing display in their opening match. 

Liverpool star Alisson didn’t make any glaring mistake, but he conceded a goal when Saibari lifted the ball over him in the opening half. 

However, the experienced goalkeeper made a brilliant double save to deny Morocco a late winner. 

Alisson parried a long-range effort from Neil El Aynaoui before reacting quickly to block the follow-up from Chemsdine Talbi. 

The 33-year-old made two saves from inside the box, had 33 touches and completed 81 percent of his passes. 

The Selecao will hope to bounce back with a better display when they take on Haiti next Friday at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. 

Their final group game is scheduled to take place on June 24 against Scotland.
