Liverpool confirm the signing of record-breaking goalkeeper

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of talented goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Hungarian club Puskas Akademia.

The English champions signed the 20-year-old goalkeeper for £1.5 million – a record sale for Puskas Akademia.

Pecsi helped Puskas Akademia finish second in the Hungarian top flight last season. He recorded the highest number of goals prevented and ranked in the top five for the best save percentage.

The talented shot-stopper was nominated for the 2025 Golden Boy award alongside Manchester United’s Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, and Arsenal’s talented midfielder Ethan Nwaneri.

Liverpool’s goalkeeping department is undergoing several changes this summer. The club sold Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford and released young goalies Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman.

Besides Pecsi, the Reds will welcome Giorgi Mamardashvili who they signed last summer but loaned him out to Valencia.

Pecsi is unlikely to get game time with the first team next season with Mamardashvili and Alisson Becker being higher in the pecking order. He is expected to feature prominently for the U21s.

The Merseyside outfit have been active in the transfer window. They just announced the signing of the Netherlands international Jeremie Frimpong, who is expected to replace the departed Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool are close to agreeing a club-record deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz, the 2023/2024 Bundesliga Player of the Season.

Talks have also reportedly advanced between the Reds and Bournemouth for left-back Milos Kerkez.

Arne Slot’s side could lose one of forwards Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo. Diaz has been linked with Barcelona and Saudi Pro-League side Al-Hilal while Bayern Munich have been credited with an interest in Gakpo.

Federico Chiesa, Harvey Elliott, and Kostas Tsimikas could also leave to seek more playing opportunities elsewhere.
