Liverpool reach broad agreement with Frankfurt over Hugo Ekitike transfer

Liverpool have reached a broad agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the proposed transfer of Hugo Ekitike, per The Athletic

While there is still work to do to iron out the finer details, there is optimism the two clubs could agree a deal worth over €95 million.

Liverpool have been very active in the ongoing Premier League summer window

They have already completed moves for Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi, Milos Kerkez and Giorgi Mamardashvili, while Florian Wirtz arrived at Anfield in a deal worth around €137.5m.

The Reds are now targeting Ekitike, who has already agreed personal terms with them.

The 23-year-old has been earning rave reviews in Germany since joining Frankfurt in January 2024, initially on loan that was later made permanent in the following summer for €17.5m.

Last season, he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances, helping his team qualify for the Champions League by finishing third in the Bundesliga table.

Ekitike’s performances have caught the attention of clubs across Europe. Newcastle United had a club-record €75m bid rejected for the French star.

The Magpies have now pulled out of the transfer race and are considering Brentford’s Yoane Wissa as an alternative target.

With Bryan Mbeumo set to join Manchester United, the West London outfit are reluctant to lose Wissa in the same window.

But a big offer from Newcastle could change their stance regarding the 28-year-old, who has just a year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.
