Premier League announces Manager of the Month nominees for September 2023

The Premier League has announced the nominees for September 2023’s Barclays Manager of the Month award.

Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery, Eddie Howe, Jurgen Klopp and Ange Postecoglou are up for the prize.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has won the award six times in his short career and will be gunning for a seventh after his team came through September unscathed.

They defeated a hapless Manchester United early on and found a way past a resilient Everton. They drew with Tottenham Hotspur and beat Bournemouth comprehensively.

Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery also had a formidable September with Aston Villa, even though it did not start well as they lost 3-0 to Liverpool.

However, Villa defeated Crystal Palace and Chelsea before spanking Brighton & Hove Albion 6-1.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have bounced back from a rocky start, a 3-1 loss to Brighton in September, to secure victories against Brentford, Sheffield United and Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool claimed vital victories against West Ham United, Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, their unbeaten run ended on the last day of the month as they lost to Tottenham in a highly controversial clash.

Klopp subsequently asked for a replay – a laugh-out-loud moment made even funnier because he was actually serious.

Spurs spoiled Klopp’s party under the guidance of affable Australian manager Postecoglou.

They claimed wins against Burnley and Sheffield United before their draw with Arsenal and the famous win over Liverpool to round out the month.

Postecoglou will be one of the favourites for the award. He currently holds the prize after claiming it in August.
