Tottenham condemn racist messages directed at Udogie following controversial Liverpool clash

Tottenham Hotspur have strongly denounced the racially abusive messages aimed at Destiny Udogie following their clash with Liverpool over the weekend.

Spurs secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Liverpool, but the contest was marred by a series of contentious incidents.

Curtis Jones received an early red card, and Diogo Jota was shown a red card for committing two bookable offences in a mere 23-second span.

Jota’s first yellow card resulted from a foul on Udogie – an incident that sparked controversy and led to differing opinions among fans. Many people believe he dived.

Udogie was subjected to a barrage of racist comments in the comment section of his latest social media post.

This deplorable behaviour did not go unnoticed, and Tottenham promptly issued a statement condemning the racial abuse directed at Udogie.

Tottenham’s official statement read: “We are disgusted at the racist messages directed towards Destiny Udogie on social media following Saturday’s game against Liverpool.

“We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify. We stand with you, Destiny.”

Liverpool’s unbeaten streak of 12 Premier League games against Tottenham ended, but the match was not without its fair share of controversy.

Liverpool had a Luis Diaz goal disallowed for offside – a decision later acknowledged as an error by PGMOL chief Howard Webb.

Manager Jurgen Klopp tagged the match as unfair, while midfielder Alexis Mac Allister accused Tottenham of playing the game with 12 men

The game will be remembered for its controversies and the need for condemnation of racism by Tottenham.

Hopefully, Spurs’ response resends a resounding message that discrimination has no place in football or society.
