‘Unlikely he will prove the preferred candidate’ – David Ornstein drops bombshell update on Liverpool managerial target

Liverpool’s search for a successor to manager Jurgen Klopp has taken a surprising turn.

Sporting CP managerial wunderkind Ruben Amorim was linked with the Liverpool job for weeks.

The rumour mill claimed Amorim had surged to the top of Liverpool’s shortlist of coaches to replace Klopp after Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

However, The Athletic reporter David Ornstein has revealed that “it looks unlikely he will prove the preferred candidate in their process to replace outgoing boss Klopp.

Two managerial candidates, Amorim and Alonso, are now off the list. Liverpool CEO of Football Michael Edwards and Sporting Director Richard Hughes must quickly turn to other options.

Other names like Simone Inzaghi and Roberto De Zerbi have been floating about as possible options, but nothing is set in stone after this major bombshell.

Both Inzaghi and De Zerbi are terrific coaches in their own right. Inzaghi could claim his maiden Serie A title with Inter Milan with a win over eternal rivals AC Milan tonight.

The former Lazio boss has already won the Coppa Italia twice and Supercoppa Italiana (thrice) since joining the club in 2021.

Inzaghi has a well-structured style of play that has gained notoriety in Italy. It has helped him win trophies from Lazio’s youth team to the first team and now the Nerazzurri.

De Zerbi was lauded at Sassuolo, drawing comparisons to Maurizio Sarri for his football principles. He went to Shakhtar Donetsk and continued to grow his reputation before his move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 44-year-old impressed in East Sussex and has garnered interest from Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Edwards and Hughes must sift through the remaining candidates, like Inzaghi and De Zerbi, who possess impressive resumes and unique tactical approaches.

The choice they make will determine Liverpool’s future direction for seasons to come.

Fans anxiously await news as the club searches for the perfect successor to Klopp’s illustrious reign, ensuring a smooth transition and continued success at Anfield.
